Sakina O'Uhuru, RPA, CM, MS was the CHRP Convocation keynote speaker for 2006. Sakina embodies, in one person, so much of the essence of the College of Health Related Professions - a commitment to interdisciplinary work, to serving underserved communities, to leadership, and to personal and professional courage and innovation.
Sakina came to the Midwifery Education Profession as a Physician Assistant. She graduated in the class of 1997, one of the early classes of students with diverse professional backgrounds - other than nursing. She worked for a number of years in the underserved community of Morris Heights in the Bronx, at the Childbearing Center. She became a leader at the Center, assuming the position of Midwifery Service Director.
