Zipcar: Wheels When You Want Them. Now at Downstate.
Gas, insurance, maintenance, car payments, parking and parking tickets. We all know the hassles of owning a car while on campus and we wanted to give you a solution: Zipcar. You can avoid the pains of having your own car on campus all while helping the environment because Zipcar, the world's largest car sharing organization, offers a convenient and environmentally friendly alternative to owning an automobile. FSA has partnered with Zipcar to bring cars-on-demand at Downstate. Two Zipcars, a Toyota Prius and a Honda CRV, are located in the State Garage on E34th Street. Low DMC discounted membership rate is $25/ yr - that's a 70% savings over the Zipcar standard rate of $85/yr). Usage rates start at $11 per hour or $77 per day (weekends $100/day) & includes gas and insurance (plus tax)!

Faculty & Staff: When the DMC Transportation Unit can’t accommodate your specific business needs for local off-site meetings during the day, consider using the Zipcar instead. Join now so it’s immediately available to you when you need to reserve it in the future.
When a State employee utilizes a zipcar rental, their rental is automatically charged to that Zipcar member's account (which they applied for and is tied to the member's credit card). The employee reserves the car online through the online zipcar reservation process and after completing the rental, the employee can print off a receipt from their Zipcar account (online). The employee then submits a standard Travel Voucher for reimbursement noting the purpose of the rental (meeting at BayRidge site, etc..) and amount, sign by supervisor & submit the Travel Voucher to State A/P @ box 54.
Already a prior Zipcar Member? SAVE$. If you joined Zipcar before the Downstate program, you can re-register as a Downstate affiliate and receive the DMC rates (your annual membership will be pro-rated and any credit due will be added to your Zipcar account!
Once a member of Zipcar you'll have access to the 2 SUNY Downstate Medical Center vehicles that live at the DMC State Garage as well as the Zipcar network of more than 6,000 vehicles throughout North America and the United Kingdom, and the 2000 cars living in New York alone.
We need YOU to be a DMC member and use them to make this pilot program a success.Effective 4/2/10, the DMC vehicles are open to all Zipcar members, so we recommend you reserve your vehicle online as early as possible. As DMC membership grows in the future, we have the opportunity to increase the fleet .

Sign up is easy - go to Zipcar
- You sign up for Zipcar on the web and pay your annual membership via credit card. The DMC discounted rate is $25 year- a savings of 66%, and several different rental value plans are posted on the Zipcar site.
- You get a Zipcard card in the mail once you're approved which functions as your access (key) to the vehicle.
- All vehicles reservations are done on line in real time on the Zipcar site. Using your iPhone, Blackberry, or their simple on-line reservation system you can book Zipcars throughout the Zipcar network … from Mini Coopers to Pick-up Trucks, Mini vans to BMWs!

All Zipcar Members- DMC State Parking Garage Rules (135 E34th St. Brooklyn NY 11203-2098):
Zipcar dedicated parking spaces #212 & 213 - 2nd floor on the E35th side, adjacent to the 2nd Floor EAST elevator. There's signs on both spaces indicating "Reserved for Zipcars Only ". Please make sure you return the Zipcars to these marked spaces - you may need to move the red cones out of the way.
IF THERE is an illegal car parked in the Zipcar space when you return your Zipcar, please immediately REPORT it to the garage attendant at the garage exit booth. The attendant will instruct you on where to temporarily park the Zipcar. We will contact the illegal parker to move their vehicle, then we will move the Zipcar into its dedicated space. PLEASE DO NOT park the zipcar in some other RESERVED space unless the attendant gives you permission... otherwise, that space owner will likely be furious if the Zipcar occupies their space (which hurts DMC's zipcar program)."
All other State Garage users: Please be a good neighbor & DON'T park in the Zipcar spaces # 212 &213!
