From the Chairman

Our motto, "If you train here, you can practice anywhere", grew from the diversity and complexity of our program. Brooklyn is not Nebraska nor Manhattan, not Bombay nor Tel Aviv, not Port au Prince nor Beijing… but at certain times in particular locations, it seems like each of those places. Interesting? You bet!

We provide advanced service to all of our communities. And yes, we practice all of the specialties, plus some – like transplant, trauma and even robotics. Providing perioperative care and administering anesthesia to patients with multiple co-morbidities will prove challenging and, when you're ready, our Fellowship training in Critical Care is excellent.

Our department is also the home of the Editorial Office of the Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology (JNA). Started in 1988 by Dr. Cottrell (Editor-in-Chief) and Dr. Hartung (Associate Editor), JNA has become the preeminent subspecialty journal in anesthesiology.

Time for fun? No problem! Our Student Center (directly across the street) offers a pool, a gym, discount tickets to major events as well as Broadway shows and a variety of classes. Brooklyn has many unique offerings – the nearby Rockaways for beach and water sports, downtown for the opera and ballet, and the Brooklyn Museum has a collection of art that rivals the Metropolitan Museum (which is only minutes away in Manhattan). You can eat at the River Café, stroll on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, pretend you're in Russia at Brighton Beach, or in China on 8th Avenue at 55th Street, ride the Cyclone at Coney Island, and get married at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Come see all that we have to offer.
